SoundExchange

United States

SoundExchange is a non-profit Collective Management Organization (CMO) that operates in a different sphere than traditional PROs. It collects and distributes digital performance royalties for the use of sound recordings, not the underlying musical compositions. It pays these royalties to recording artists and master rights owners (typically record labels) when their music is played on non-interactive digital platforms like satellite radio (SiriusXM), internet radio (Pandora), and cable TV music channels. It plays a vital role in ensuring that performers and labels are compensated for digital transmissions.
