Basics of Royalties
When your song is streamed, it generates two distinct types of royalties: master royalties and publishing royalties.
Master royalties are tied to the specific recording of a song. It's the payment for the use of the actual audio file that you listen to. This royalty is paid to the owner of the master recording, which is often a record label, but can also be the artist if they are independent and funded their own recording.
Publishing royalties, on the other hand, are for the underlying composition of the song, the melody and the lyrics. These royalties are paid to the songwriters and their publishers. Every time the song is reproduced or publicly performed (even by another artist), the original songwriters and publishers get paid.

Why do publishing royalties matter to you?
Publishing royalties are what you earn as a songwriter or producer when your music is used. They matter because it’s your money and without help, a lot of it goes uncollected.
Sounds easy? Well, here's the issue
These royalties are collected by over 200 organizations worldwide. Most Performing Rights Organizations (PROs), track public performances but they don’t collect everything.
How do PROs fit into this?
If you do have a PRO
Keep getting paid by your PRO like you always have. We don't interfere with the royalties you already receive. Simply connect your PRO account to Monetunes when you sign up, and we will collect everything your PROs might miss, especially from digital and international sources.
If you don’t have a PRO
Monetunes can still collect royalties for you worldwide. You’re not missing out.

TLDR
✅ You earn publishing royalties when your music’s played, streamed, or used.
✅ PROs collect some of those royalties, but not all.
✅ Monetunes collects what your PRO and others might miss, worldwide.
✅ We work with your PRO if you have one, or collect everything for you if you don’t have one
✅ Important: We never touch the money you already get from labels, distributors, or PROs.
In short: you stay in control and Monetunes makes sure you don’t miss out on a cent.
