PPL (Phonographic Performance Limited)

PPL is the UK's dedicated neighboring rights collection society. It licenses the use of recorded music when it is played in public (e.g., in shops, bars, offices) or broadcast on TV and radio. Distinct from PRS for Music, PPL collects royalties on behalf of performers and record companies—the owners of the sound recording itself. Working alongside PRS, PPL provides a complete licensing solution for UK businesses, ensuring that both the creators of the musical composition and the creators of the recording are fairly compensated.
