Publishing royalties are the payments that you receive as a songwriter or producer whenever a song that you wrote the music or lyrics of is used in various settings, such as on Radio, Live, Streaming Services, etc. Those are different from the master royalties, which are usually paid by your distributor or record label.
Publishing is directly related to the “idea” of the song. Think of the last song that you released for example. Publishing was born when you wrote its lyrics on a piece of paper or on your phone, or when you choose what snare to add in your song as well as which melodies to add. Spotify, YouTube and other digital stores pay additional royalties to those who created the song. However, these are typically not collected by your record label or distributor, and end up in what is called a “black box” of royalties.
Master royalties, on the other hand, are tied to the recording of the song rather than the composition itself, thus the individual .wav and .mp3 of your Work. These royalties are earned from the actual sound recording when it is streamed, sold, or used in various media. Master rights typically belong to the record label or the artist if they are independent. These royalties are collected by distributors and labels, ensuring that the owner of the recording gets paid whenever the track is played on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube Content ID.
In short:

Publishing royalties = for the song’s composition (melody, lyrics, arrangement)

Master royalties = for the actual recording (the specific performance of the song)
If you artist write and/or produce your own music, you are entitled to both publishing and master royalties. However, many artists miss out on publishing royalties because the process is lengthy, expensive and time-consuming.

Yes, you can use Monetunes even if you are registered with a PRO. We actually encourage it.
Publishing royalties are split in two parts:

Songwriter's Share: Paid directly to you by your PRO.

Publisher's Share: Usually left uncollected unless you have a publisher.
By registering your works with a PRO, you will collect the Songwriter’s Share. However, PROs do not typically collect all publishing royalties, leaving a significant amount unclaimed. Monetunes helps you recover these additional royalties—often double what you might earn through your PRO alone.
Additionally, when you register your works on Monetunes, they are automatically synced with your PRO, ensuring you don’t have to register them separately.-
It vastly depends on the type of Royalties and the Country they originated from. For example, Performance Royalties from live shows sit unclaimed for 1 year before they are redistributed to other creators. On the other hand, Mechanical Royalties (which are generated every time that someone streams your music on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, etc) could remain unclaimed for up to 6 years.
